Idil Atak is an associate professor in the Department of Criminology, Ryerson University, Toronto and the Editor-In-Chief of International Journal of Migration and Border Studies. She received her Ph.D. from the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Law. She serves as secretary on the Executive Committee of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration. She is a past president of the Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies. Her research interests include refugee protection, sanctuary city policies, and human rights law. Idil is the principal investigator on a Government of Ontario funded research which investigates the impact of border security measures on the human rights on migrants who enter without legal permission in Canada and Europe.
